Welcome to the ICA Maxi Arena in Visby, a fantastic new sports and entertainment centre that is creating fantastic opportunities for Gotland. This state of the art and fully equipped arena can host sports and culture events for up to 2,200 spectators. Close to the Unesco World Heritage City of Visby, the port and bus stops, the arena is easy to access.
About the ICA Maxi Arena With a ceiling clearance of 9.2 metres and 1,000 sq. m. floor area, the ICA Maxi Arena offers plenty of space. The playing area is 44×24 m and the floor has markings for handball, indoor bandy, basketball and volleyball. There is a total of six basketball baskets and handball goals, plus an indoor bandy rink, volleyball nets and a wooden floor graded and approved for basketball matches. The arena is also ideal for many other sports, such as five a side football, fencing, gymnastics etc. Two large stands that can seat 1,500 spectators in total along the lengths of the arena frame the playing area.
There are eight modern changing rooms for players and participants, equipped with digital screens, plus a changing room for referees. The arena is situated in a sports and recreation area with several football pitches, boules courts, running tracks and beach areas for volleyball and similar just round the corner. Inside the arena is an O’Learys Bar & Restaurant plus conference facilities and executive suites for 30 guests including a balcony overlooking the playing area. In Visby itself, where there are numerous other sports facilities within easy reach of accommodation, recreation and competition venues, there is plenty to do and see in this medieval city, shopping and the sea close by.
Gutavallen just outside the city walls is the main outdoor facility in Visby. It includes natural grass football pitches with running tracks round them and a spectator stand and simpler conference facilities.
Racket Sports Hall for tennis, badminton and table tennis with sea views just north of the inner city. Several indoor halls, outdoor playing areas and a swimming pool are also close to the city centre. An ice rink and a riding stabls are 3 km outside Visby.
Within cycling distance you will find VOK- och SVAIDE-stugan with ski and jogging trails plus orienteering courses. Traume is a facility with several grass pitches and accommodation for many players.
In Västerhejde just south of Visby there are several football and varpa courts – varpa is an ancient Viking game, a bit like boules but played with big heavy disc. Kneippbyn with Villa Villekulla and a large summer and aqua park are also here.
